Remember when Chicago had a 1.7% chance of getting the #1 overall pick and drafted Derrick Rose. The fact that Rose is from Chicago makes the pick even more ridiculous.

We go for Orlando who won the lottery with a 1.52% chance. Don't be a hypocrite.

Pretty sure the draft order is decided by a computer that randomly picks numeric codes that have been pre-assigned to teams in the lottery. No more Ping-Pong balls...its been that way for a while

Yeah, you're right on that. I guess it's still luck of the draw though a computer is doing the drawing. Why did they change the format? Did they suspect that Orlando was rigging the ball machine or something?

I don't know, good question. Seems to me it would be easier to rig a computer picking numbers "randomly" than to somehow make a specific ping-pong ball pop up on command. Anyone remember what year this first started?

They still use ping pong balls, just not in the way you probably imagine.

After we won the lotto twice in a row, the second time having the smallest chance, they changed the process to up the chances for the worst team from ~16% to 26%. I think that's when they switched from ping pong balls with team logos to using ping pong balls to pick a series of four numbers (1-14) with each sequence being assigned to a specific team. So, they still use the ping pong balls, just in a slightly different fashion.

I think you're right...and a computer simply assigns the series of potentially winning numbers to each lottery team based on the odds

It's good to know that they still use ping pong balls. I guess I was half right, just didn't know about the programmed computer being a part of it, and haven't actually watched the lotto drawing for awhile.
