Personally i think the name is a little soft... Pelicans?? not very intimidating......

"Magic" isn't intimidating either.

From what I read, there's a Pelican on the Lousiana state seal and state flag so it makes sense.




But yeah, it's kinda weak.

There should be a rule that says if you move an existing team you have to change the name. That way New Orleans could just be the Jazz like they should be.

Will it be a pelican playing basketball? Or perhaps a pelican with its beak acting as the basket?

what an utterly stupid, pathetic, and drab team name.

I know it's the state bird and all, but what the hell. The marketing folks couldn't come up with something better? Why not celebrate Louisiana's french heritage (like the saints). I can think of two names off the bat that are a hell of a lot better than pelican.

The new orleans musketeers
The new orleans cuirassiers (or lancers or dragoons)
