OK, I have to admit, that game against the Spurs last night made me reconsider the Magic's ability to get to 30 wins, no matter the quality of opponent!

Was it really that bad? The Spurs are really friggin' good. At basketball. And winning.

And stuff.

Giving Miami problems with their 4 best players out.

Agreed.

But at times, it was Globetrotters vs. Nationals bad.

I agree with bhnole. I think a few wins over 30 is possible if Jameer stays healthy the entire season. I personally doubt that happens and we end up with around 27 wins.

This is where my head's at: if 'Meer is healthy, we'll win a few games on that alone. But he won't be. I love the guy, but he hasn't exactly been an ironman; he'll never compete for consecutive games played.

And we don't have a lot of depth or experience behind him (although I'd love to see JJ get some burn at the point), so I expect us to have a win total somewhere between 25 and 35, barring some miracle gelling of the team and people playing WAY better than they should.

A surprising mental error on my part. I'm feeling rather Turk-like.

I don't know.

I'm betting the Washington Nationals aren't very good at basketball either.
Don't you do it, Hitler!
Don't you dare fall in love with me!

Nor the Washington Wizards.

I will say... We had some similar blowout losses before with Dwight. I recall a game against the Knicks last year that was just embarrassing. I think three seasons ago there was one where we blew a 20 point lead to the Wiz.

I say this because one big loss does not automatically reflect the mettle of the team. I think the Minny game this year was just as bad, but we sort of bounces back from that. We will see how the team fares against Brooklyn, I guess.

In fact, I'd expect there to be a huge variance this year. I imagine we'll blow out a big-name team one night, and then lose to the Wizards the next. It's going to be that kind of season and we have those kinds of players, and brand spanking new coach, and basically a whole new team the majority of which are rookies or bench-warmers.

Can't stress that enough.

We won't lose every game, or even most games, but there will be nights were the team will inevitably just be "on" and we'll win when we're not supposed to.

[edit: also, imagine how sad it is that, as much as this team was just blown up and is in its first year of rebuilding, we're STILL better than four or five other teams. Could you imagine being a fan of them? Ouch.]

Well, we're definitely going to lose most games.
